Welcome to my website.

My design philosophy is to make spaces work as hard as possible. I divide spaces. I stack them. I put shelves above doors. I build beds above desks. Maybe it’s stingy. Maybe it’s obsessive-compulsive. I call it a way of life. I love small spaces.

You don’t need a lot of space to be efficient. A kitchen is a good example. You never want to have extra steps in a kitchen.

Try condensing some of the functions of a room into a tight corner, and see how the rest of the space will suddenly open up – to use for something else – to move around in – or just to look at.

For many decades now, I have designed and lived in small spaces – from apartments in Manhattan to cottages in South Africa. I invite you to join me on this small space journey. Along the way, I hope to give you many practical ideas on how to use every inch of the spaces you live in.

“Our beds are empty 2/3 of the time, our living rooms 7/8, our offices 1/2 of the time. It’s time we gave this some thought” … R Buckminster Fuller
